1) Why choose a translation agency and not go to a private individual working on his own?
The quality of a translation depends in the main on the professional skills of the person who carries out the work. Having said this, a well-organised translation agency can guarantee greater continuity in the service it offers as it can count on greater back-up. Puntolingua never goes on holiday and always has a translator available. Knowledge, skills and materials are pooled within each team of translators.
As far as the prices go, you may compare ours with those of other professional translators in Europe and see that there are but few differences.

2) Is it possible to know who will do my translation?
You may, at the moment of requesting the service, ask for information on who will be carrying out the work, in order to check up on the professionalism of our translators.

3) What materials and instruments does Puntolingua use to carry out technical translations?
This depends on the language combination. For certain languages it is still impossible to find a trustworthy technical dictionary. In most cases our teams can use translation software (Wordfast or Trados) and, apart from all their own material, gathered through years of work, can use online resources. Beyond this, there is active exchange with other translators, both within and external to Puntolingua.
If you are going to give us a technical translation, supply us with a technical glossary as well, or indeed an English translation of the text. No matter how far a translator may be expert, nobody can know everything in every field.

4) Can Puntolingua carry out legally certified translations?
In Italy, unlike many other European countries, there is no official registry of translators. This leads to an ambiguous situation. To become a legally certified translator at an Italian court it is necessary to enrol on the list of experts at the Chamber of Commerce.
Many translators who work for Puntolingua are certified translators at an Italian court. However, before giving us a commission for a legally certified translation check with your local court. Often it is not necessary to use the services of a legally certified translator and so you can save on the cost of the service.

5) I need a translation of 100 standard pages by tomorrow. Is it possible?
Translation is a job that necessitates professionalism and care. An skilled translator can translate some 10 standard pages in a day. As with anybody else, a translator has the right - and the need - to have some free time during the day. Over and above this, Puntolingua needs some time for the technical side of organising the work with the various translators.
If you have an urgent job of some 100 standard pages, then give us at least five days. It would be better still to get organised well in advance, so that everyone can work at the right rhythm for the job.

6) There are repeated words in my text. Why aren't these counted only once?
Translation is not simply substituting a word in one language for that in another. If you try using an automatic translation program you'll see what this means!
Translations are carried out by one or more people and not by a software program, although the use of technological aids is certainly useful for technical translations.
